YESTERYEAR Book Club (Dark Side of the Word Podcast)

Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke book cover

Hello, Tartlets and Darksiders! We are BACK!

I know, I know. It’s been a crazy long time since you’ve heard from us. Lots of Life Stuff happened, and we had to take an unscheduled break from the podcast.

But, like I said: Kait and I are back, and we’re excited to finish up 2026 with a few more book club episodes, including a December episode where we’ll read… Christmas horror. Yeah. I’m stoked.

For this October 2026 episode, we wanted to tackle a different side of “dark” books.

The popular novel Yesteryear isn’t horror in the truest sense – but it touches upon a lot of unsettling and even scary concepts and plot points. This bestseller by Caro Claire Burke seemed like a fun and different way to jump back into our podcast season.

What’s this episode about? (Spoilers)

In this conversation, Kait and I discuss Yesteryear. There’s some debate about social commentary, about whether we were disappointed with the ending (yeah…YEAH…), and whether we’re over the whole unreliable narrator trend (**raises hand**).

I’ve been reading a lot of #influencerlifestyle books lately, and jumping on the #tradwife novel bandwagon, so parts of Yesteryear were right up my alley. Other parts? Not so much.
