Dark Side of the Word: A Dark Book Podcast

Yup: the unthinkable has happened. I, the woman who hates the sound of her own voice, am co-hosting a book podcast.

I’ve been writing about books for years; now, I’m talking about them, too. If you have a burning desire to hear what my voice sounds like — and to find out what books you should and shouldn’t read — come listen to me and my critique partner, Kait, on Dark Side of the Word: Podcast.

What kind of books do we talk about?

In keeping with our “Dark Side of the Word” theme, we mostly review “dark” books.

This can range from dark academia to dark historical fiction to dark horror to dark humor to dark thrillers… Just all the dark things.

We’ll read books from a wide range of genres so we can appeal to a variety of literary tastes. So, while you won’t find light and fluffy rom-coms on our podcast, there’s a good chance you’ll like some of the books we feature each month.

What makes our book podcast unique?

Kait and I discuss books from the perspective of a reader and a writer, plus catch you up on our writing journeys and other content we’re currently reading and watching. We break each month’s podcasts into four different categories — writing updates from the trenches, content recaps, current events in the writing world, and, of course, our monthly book club.

Keep in mind that even though Kait and I are good friends, our literary tastes don’t overlap much. Which can make for some lively debates and hilarious banter as we discuss what we loved and loathed each month.

When do new episodes of Dark Side of the Word come out?

A new podcast episode of Dark Side of the Word goes live (almost) every Thursday. Each week will feature one of the four categories, and the monthly book club discussion will go up on the last Thursday of every month.

That’s a hard timeline to keep track of, so I’ll make it easy for you and post on the blog/social media when a new episode goes up. You can also follow the podcast’s Instagram and Facebook accounts for updates.
