You know I’m all about the self-help, self-care, and woo-woo stuff these days, Tartlets. So, I was excited when author Robin Emtage offered me an ARC of her new book Keep On Glowing: Your Guide to Graceful Empowerment and Unstoppable Glow. It sounded right up my alley.
What’s Keep On Glowing about?
Keep On Glowing is a guide to helping women rediscover and maintain a sense of self-confidence so that they can “glow” from within.
Your glow should be thought of as that inner light that fills you up and makes you shine. It’s a positive energy cultivated through years of resilience, wisdom, and self-respect. Honoring your intentions, maintaining healthy boundaries, cultivating meaningful relationships, and so much more all help you maintain your glow.
Author Emtage is a beautician, and her goal is to keep women feeling beautiful inside and out as they head into the “midlife” years. This is often when stereotypical beauty wanes, along with one’s sense of self-worth. Which means your glow has the potential to wane, too. And that just makes for all sorts of not-good things in your life.
Emtage’s book is divided into three sections. Each one includes positive mindset shifts and suggested daily glow rituals to restore your inner radiance. Topics covered are how to protect your inner glow against negativity from others and from yourself; how to redefine what “aging” means; how to embrace positivity and enlightenment; and how to build the fulfilling life that all women deserve. There are Glow Actions to take and Glow Affirmations to keep in mind at the end of every chapter, and there’s a 7-Day challenge to help you along your path to reigniting your inner glow.
What I liked about Keep On Glowing
Emtage advocates that true beauty comes from within, not from any makeup or makeup artist. As someone who rarely wears makeup, I love this mindset. I recently turned 42, and while “being in your forties” is not what it used to be, there’s still a (often negative) mental shift about what it means to be in that age range.
In other words: it was a good time for a reset.
I really like that Emtage encourages women to look past their age and to focus on how we feel inside. And, if how we feel inside isn’t all that great, she shows us how to help that. As hokey as it may sound, I agree that preserving your glow is essential to living a good life. If you’re not content within yourself, you’re going to have a hard time being content with the world around you.
Should you read Keep on Glowing?
While Keep on Glowing is targeted at 40+ year old women, the points within are applicable to any woman who feels she needs to work on her self-esteem and self-love. This book helps you reframe how you think about yourself and the world women live in. It also prompts you to consider how we can exist more naturally and happily in today’s society.
That said, a lot of the concepts and tips in Keep on Glowing were ones I’ve already encountered and put in to practice. I think this book will be good for self-help beginners, but it won’t be as helpful for those who already regularly practice gratitude and positivity.
I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author. All opinions expressed in this review are my own. I was not compensated in any way for this review or for any other promotion/publicity I’ve done related to this book.
